Dr. Henry P. Bryant, was born May 12, 1820 in Boston and was the grandson of Rev. Colonel  John Smith and “Polly” Cleveland.  Dr. Henry Bryant at the beginning of the late civil war was on staff of General Lander.  Afterward, Surgeon Bryant took control of the Lincoln Military Hospital in Washington, D.C., which he established and administered in a very admirable manner. Dr. Henry Bryant was a member of the Cincinnati ; the insignia of Col. David Mason was voted to his grandfather, Col. John Bryant, and descended through his father, John Bryant and brother, John Bryant.

He was in Porto Rico after birds, a science in which he was eminent, and d. of fever of the country. Part of his collection of birds and eggs (from Paris, &c.) was given to the Natural History Society of Boston. Mrs. Elizabeth Brimmer (Sohier) Bryant still resides in Boston.
